ROCKVILLE, MD — A traffic camera near Wootton's Mill Park in Rockville was the target of a double helping of vandalism last week. Now, arson investigators are looking into the cause behind the July 17 blaze.

It wasn't just a fire that struck the traffic camera. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer, the camera was graffitied with "anti-law enforcement words" and had its lenses covered.

While its unknown how fast the culprit may have been moving at the time, the repair of the damage was lightning quick: The traffic camera is back in operation snapping images of speeders on Hurley Avenue, Piringer confirmed in a text message.
