Antisemitic Flyers Found Posted In Kemp Mill Orthodox Jewish Community

MOCO Police are investigating the posting of flyers with a swastika drawing and a slur in a Montgomery County Orthodox Jewish community.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Antisemitic flyers were posted at a bus stop in the Kemp Mill Orthodox Jewish Community in Montgomery County Thursday morning, a statement from County Executive Marc Elrich and the County Council says.

The flyers — which included a drawing of a swastika and a slur — were found at the stop at the corner of Arcola Avenue and Lamberton Streets in Kemp Mill.

"We are shocked and outraged at this blatant attempt to intimidate and put fear into our Jewish community throughout our County and region," the statement says. "The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating this incident and they are working to determine who was behind this horrible act. It is our hope that the people who are responsible for this act are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

County officials said they planned to meet with Kemp Mill community leaders to discuss safety and security concerns.

"We were disturbed this morning to hear about two heinous acts of antisemitism in Kemp Mill, home to a large Orthodox Jewish community," says a statement from Ron Halber, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, said the. "We appreciate the County Executive’s immediate outreach to the Jewish community and the significant response by law enforcement to identify the perpetrators and reassure our community that security is of utmost concern."

The Council and Elrich said they are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive community for all of Montgomery County's residents.

"Today, we stand united with our Jewish residents, particularly our local Holocaust survivors, their children, and grandchildren," their statement says.
