Why Gabe Albornoz quit the council and asked for his old job back (thebanner.com) — Silver Spring residents may see changes at local recreation sites like Holiday Park and the Long Branch Community Center as Gabe Albornoz returns to lead Montgomery County Recreation. He left his at-large council seat to focus on expanding free programs, addressing aging facilities, and possibly filling Sunday service gaps in Silver Spring and other underserved neighborhoods.
   

3. 2 Maryland men plead guilty in $11M laundering scheme (wjla.com) — A Silver Spring man has admitted to leading a multi‑million‑dollar money laundering conspiracy that moved more than $11 million through shell companies and rapid bank transfers. Federal prosecutors say he and a Hyattsville co‑conspirator face up to 20 years in prison, with several others already sentenced and millions in restitution ordered. Sentencing is scheduled for spring 2026.
   

4. Man hit, killed by vehicle while riding bike in Silver Spring (wjla.com) — A man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon at New Hampshire Avenue and Southview Avenue in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police. The driver stayed on scene, and investigators are still working to determine what happened. Anyone who saw the crash or has information is urged to contact MCPD.
   

5. Federal agents join search for man accused of stabbing ex-girlfriend in Montgomery County (foxbaltimore.com) — Federal and local authorities are searching for a Rockville man accused of ambushing his ex-girlfriend with a knife outside her Silver Spring apartment in April. The woman survived after her current boyfriend intervened, and investigators say witnesses and evidence support her account. Residents are asked to contact the U.S. Marshals Service with any information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
