Holiday-Themed Activities Offered At Montgomery Co. Libraries
Children across Montgomery County can watch movies, go on scavenger hunts, decorate cookies, and more.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Looking for fun and free activities to do with your kids during their winter break? You're in luck.
Montgomery County Public Libraries offer plenty of holiday-themed programs to keep your children busy. While all activities are free, some require registration.
Activities include watching movies, going on scavenger hunts, decorating cookies, and participating in sing-alongs. Public libraries across Montgomery County will be offering these programs to children of all ages (unless the activity description states otherwise). Dec. 1 – 31
Silver Spring
- Candy Cane Scavenger Hunt: Embark on a scavenger hunt and find candy canes located throughout the library
Dec. 22
Rockville

- Christiana Drapkin's Jingle Bell Jazz for Kids: Join Christiana Drapkin in a sing-along. And if you have jingle bells, bring them! The event, which starts at 11 a.m., will also feature other fun rhythm instruments.
Rockville
- Decorate a Holiday Cookie: The event starts at 2 p.m., and the cookies will be kosher and gluten-free. Registration is required. Click here to register.

- Interactive Movie: Frozen: The film will start at 2 p.m. and registration is required. Click here to register.

Silver Spring
- Noon Year’s Eve: Celebrate the New Year with a story, a special craft, and a balloon drop at noon. The event starts at 11 a.m.
Dec. 24 – 30
Germantown
- Gingerbread Man Hunt: Find the Gingerbread Man, who is hiding in the library, to get rewards. The Gingerbread Man will hide in different places every day.
Dec. 27
Silver Spring
- Polar Express Movie: Watch the movie with a cup of hot cocoa at 2 p.m.
Bethesda
- Book Bingo: It's bingo, but with a twist. This activity includes favorite children's book characters and is open to those ages five to 10. Library staff will hand out free tickets 30 minutes before the program. Book Bingo starts at 4 p.m.
Dec. 29
Bethesda
- Winter Break Teen Hangout: Teens in grades 8 through 12 can enjoy an afternoon of crafts, snacks, and fun. Click here to register for the event, which starts at 2 p.m.

Dec. 31
Bethesda
- Happy Noon Year: Cheer in the New Year early with stories, music, crafts, and a special countdown. The library will distribute tickets 30 minutes before the program. The celebration will start at 11:30 a.m. and end at 12:15 p.m. Space is limited.
Damascus
- Happy Noon Year's Eve: Celebrate the New Year early with stories, crafts, and a countdown. The event is open to children ages three to eight. Those five years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 12:15 p.m.
