Impersonating A Police Officer: Man Charged In Silver Spring Incident

A Clarksburg man was charged after he blocked a driver in an intersection and claimed he was a police officer, Montgomery County Police say.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Clarksburg man is facing charges after police say he falsely identified himself as a police officer to enter a gated community and block a car at an intersection inside on May 15, a Montgomery County Police news release said.

Matthew Kinsey, 47, has been charged with impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment — he was released on a $3,000 bond, authorities said.

After Kinsey blocked the car in the intersection of the Leisure World community in Silver Spring, he approached and said he was a Montgomery County Police officer, a police news release says. The driver asked why Kinsey's car didn't have any lights and asked to see a badge. Authorities say that Kinsey did not respond, but went to the front of the car and took a picture of the license plate before getting back in his car, which was a Barwood Taxi sedan.
