Light Bulb Causes Silver Spring House Fire, Family Displaced

A Silver Spring family was displaced after a light bulb too close to combustible materials caused a fire in their home Tuesday night.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring family was displaced after a light bulb too close to combustible materials caused a fire in their home Tuesday night, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 8:15 p.m. at 9004 Colesville Rd.

The fire is believed to have started from an 100-watt incandescent light bulb that was in a bedroom closet, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

A resident walking by the house alerted the residents of the fire, Piringer said. No one was injured.

The fire caused about $30,000 in damage and displaced the family of three.
