Man Charged In Fatal Crash On Connecticut Avenue In November

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring man was arrested and charged with criminally negligent manslaughter, negligent driving, and failure to control speed in connection to the crash on Connecticut Avenue and Franklin Street in November that killed Michaele Anne Belford, a 72-year-old Kensington resident.

Gustavo Santos Campos, 42, was arrested March 18, authorities said.

Santos Campo was driving a blue 2006 Toyota Tacoma north on Connecticut Avenue Nov. 16 when it struck a black 2007 Toyota 4Runner that was attempting to cross Connecticut Avenue on Franklin Street, police said.

Belford was a passenger in the 4Runner, which rolled over. Belford and the driver was rescued from the vehicle by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, and were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said. Belford died at the hospital the next day.

Santos Campo had non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
