Man Fraudulently Bought 2 Vehicles From Silver Spring Dealership: MCPD

SILVER SPRING, MD — A man accused of fraudulently purchasing two vehicles in Silver Spring recently is facing several charges from multiple jurisdictions, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Phillip Young, 22, of Randallstown has been charged with auto theft and forgery in Montgomery County, Baltimore County and Dauphin County, PA, police said.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at approximately 9:54 a.m., police said they were dispatched to Jim Coleman Nissan of Silver Spring in the 3200 block of Automobile Boulevard for a report of a fraud that occurred earlier.

Detectives said they determined that on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at approximately 3 p.m., Young arrived at the dealership and purchased a 2020 Silver Toyota Prius and a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid with two fraudulent checks.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Bank of America notified the personnel at the dealership that the two checks issued by Young to buy the two vehicles were fraudulent, police said.

The two vehicles were then entered as stolen into the law enforcement databases. On July 13, 2022, the vehicles were recovered by Baltimore City Police Department.

On Friday, July 15, 2022, detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Young, charging him with auto theft and forgery-related charges.

On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, Young was located and arrested by Baltimore City Police Department.

Young was then extradited to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was served with an arrest warrant. His bond was set at $1,000, police said.
