Missing Man With Dementia May Be In Gambrills Area: Police
Police are still searching for Daniel Dehaven, a missing dementia sufferer who is the brother of a retired Montgomery County firefighter.
GAMBRILLS, MD — Police are still searching for a man missing from Beltsville who is the brother of a retired Montgomery County firefighter. Authorities in Anne Arundel County have joined the search for the man, missing for nearly a week, who suffers from dementia and is not able to communicate. Given the single-digit overnight low temperatures, Prince George's County Police say it is critical that they find Daniel DeHaven, 65, immediately; he may have been given a ride to the Gambrills area, authorities say.
Dehaven disappeared about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, when he was at a Costco in the 10900 block of Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville with his wife, officials said. Prince George's County Police said Sunday that DeHaven may have been picked up while walking on Route 1 on Jan. 2 by a driver who dropped him off in the 800 block of Annapolis Road in Gambrills.
Anne Arundel County Police shared a missing person's flyer Sunday and said DeHaven may have been seen in the area of Arundel High School on Jan. 2. Anyone who has seen DeHaven, or knows of his whereabouts, is asked to call 301-987-0910 or 9-1-1.

Police said Dehaven's family is extremely concerned about his welfare. Dehaven is 5'9", weighs 175 pounds and has brown eyes and partially gray hair. He was last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans and a gray hat. Dehaven did not have identification on him when he disappeared, police said. The family has set up a Facebook page, Help Us Find Danny Francis DeHaven, where search plans and other updates are posted.
"With current freezing temperatures, we have dedicated around-the-clock manpower to this active investigation, but so far we have been unable to locate him," police said last week.

Dehaven was last seen on store surveillance video in the 10900 block of Baltimore Avenue about 11:30 a.m. Jan. 2. Prince George's County Police officers, detectives, K-9 units, the aviation unit, and additional law enforcement agencies searched for him throughout the night. Residents and local businesses are asked to be on the lookout.
Police received a tip that Dehaven may have been sighted in downtown Silver Spring and searched the area without success. Montgomery County Police and several other area jurisdictions are assisting in the search for Dehaven.
On Monday the family asked for help from anyone who is familiar with the homeless community or has volunteered in soup kitchens primarily in the Beltsville, Greenbelt, and College Park areas. A meeting was planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department to explore the homeless network.
As a reminder, with current freezing temperatures, police ask all residents to watch out for one another. Check on elderly neighbors and take extra precautions with anyone in your care who may require extra attention like making sure they have identification on them.
