Montgomery County Election: Polls Close For County Executive, Council Races
Democratic Party sweeps Montgomery County Council races, including county executive and at-large seats, according to unofficial results.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Although the results of Tuesday's general election won't be certified until Nov. 18, it appears that the Montgomery County Council will remain solidly in control of the Democratic Party, according to unofficial results from the State Board of Elections.
At 10 p.m., on Tuesday, incumbent Democrat Marc Elrich declared victory in the county executive's race, defeating Republican challenger Reardon "Sully" Sullivan. Elrich made the announcement at a gathering in Silver Spring, Bethesda Beat reported. He thanked his family and supporters for backing him.
With 258 of 258 election day precincts reporting, Elrich had a total of 167,44 votes (71.40 percent) compared to Sullivan's 65,838 votes (28.04 percent).

In the race to fill the four open at-large seats on the Montgomery County Council, these four Democrats had the most votes with 258 of 258 election day precincts reporting: Evan Glass with 157,702 (19.33 percent), Laurie-Anne Sayles with 155,689 (19.09 percent), Gabe Albornoz with 154,108 (18.90 percent), and Will Jawando with 151,702 (18.88 percent).

Several jurisdictions also had local ballot questions. Montgomery County's two questions seek to amend the county charter to:
- require consent of both the County Executive and the County Council in order to remove the County Attorney.
- authorize the Board of License Commissioners for Montgomery County to issue a Class B beer, wine, and liquor license in Damascus (12th election district)
When Will The Results Be Certified?
Election officials will tally provisional ballots on Nov. 16. Mail-in ballots will be counted as they arrive until Nov. 18. Local boards cannot certify their results before Nov. 18.
