SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring woman accused of kidnapping her young daughter, has been taken into custody after months on the run, authorities confirmed Monday.

Montgomery County police said Ashley Spicer, 35, and her 9-year-old daughter, Israel "Kali" Burks, were located unharmed in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday — four months after the two were reported missing. Spicer was arrested and Burks was reunited with her father, who has full custody of her.

Authorities did not release additional information about Sunday's event.

Spicer and her daughter were reported missing on Oct. 2, but were last seen together on Aug. 30, 2020. According to police, Spicer was supposed to bring Israel back to her father after a visit.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant soon after, charging her with parental abduction. They said Spicer was aware of the arrest warrant but did not turn herself in to detectives.
