Police Release Name Of Teen Fatally Shot In Silver Spring

The shooting happened Tuesday in the 700 block of University Boulevard East, police said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Authorities have identified the 17-year-old who was fatally shot in Silver Spring on Tuesday.

According to Montgomery County police, officers responded to the 700 block of University Boulevard East around 11:30 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired and a person down in the roadway.

When police arrived, they found Jaril Verde Murillo suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities attempted life-saving measures, but Verde Murillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other males who were with Verde Murillo were not injured.

Investigators later determined that Verde Murillo, who has no fixed address, and the others were walking along a path toward the Foxhall Apartments when an unknown suspect shot in their direction and ran away. Verde Murillo collapsed in the roadway on University Boulevard East, police said.

Verde Murillo was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where the cause and manner of death were determined to be homicide by gunshot wound.

At this time, police said no suspect information is available, and no arrests have been made.
