Silver Spring Man Killed In Washington, D.C. Hit And Run
The victim of a D.C. hit and run has been identified as Rakesh Patel, a 33-year-old from Silver Spring. He was hit after his car was stolen.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Rakesh Patel, a 33-year-old man from Silver Spring, died after a suspect got into Patel's car and hit him in a Washington, D.C. intersection before driving away.
The hit and run occurred at the intersection of 18th Street and Florida Avenue Tuesday just after 8 p.m., the Metropolitan Police Department said. Patel's car was a dark silver Mercedes E350 with Ohio license plate EVB5183.
Patel was a doctor who had trained at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of Dr. Rakesh (Rick) Patel," said MedStar Washington in a tweet. "He served his residency here, had completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases, and was currently training as a Critical Care fellow. Dr. Patel will be greatly missed."
