Baltimore County Police Show Off New Cars

What do you think of the police department's new cars?

Baltimore County police unveiled their new rides Thursday.

The department is starting the process of replacing its existing fleet of Ford Crown Victorias with the Ford Interceptor, a version of the Taurus designed for law enforcement.

The county has purchased 50 of the new vehicles—at a cost of $1.3 million—and they will be on the streets starting next month.

“As a police officer, one of the features I like best about the Interceptor is the way it handles. It’s maneuverable and feels almost like a sports car,” Police Chief Jim Johnson said in a news release. “I think our officers are going to find it a functional and enjoyable car to drive.”

The new vehicles will be deployed in what the department described as its more rural precincts Precinct 3 (Franklin), Precinct 7 (Cockeysville) and Precinct 8 (Parkville).

The old Crown Victorias will be sold at auction as Interceptors replace them.
