Maryland Education Board Delays Discipline Policy Vote

The Maryland State Board of Education has delayed a vote on new discipline regulations aimed at reducing the number of out of school suspensions.

The new regulations were supposed to be voted on in December, but has been pushed back to January to extend the public comment period on the proposed changes, according to The Washington Post.

"The revision was part of a statewide effort to reform school discipline so that all policies and practices related to student conduct foster and teach appropriate behavior, strive to create a positive school climate, and keep students in school so that they may graduate college and career ready," according to the education board’s website.
