A Look Inside El Rodeo

The Tex-Mex restaurant is slated to open March 15.

Lots of restaurants in Towson offer a weekend brunch. But later this month, only one of them will offer it with a side of mariachi music.

Neel Kamal, chef-owner of , said that's among his plans after the restaurant opens on March 15. El Rodeo is the space in the Penthouse building at 28 Allegheny Ave. formerly occupied by .

The Towson restaurant isn't—pardon the expression—Kamal's first rodeo. El Rodeo's first location is in Edgewood, and Kamal also owns in Perry Hall.

Though the space on Allegheny was in good shape, Kamal was hard at work last week guiding the festive redecoration, including new tables, signs and a colorful new paint job, seen in our photos.

The area where Taste once stored its wine bottles has been converted into a party room. Kamal said he's considering turning an upstairs area into an sports bar sort of environment.

The Towson restaurant will offer patio dining, Latin dancing on Friday nights and brunch on Sundays accompianied by the mariachi band. Birthday parties come with free sombreros, and children get free maracas. The menu will be similar to the Edgewood location, Kamal said.

"Basically, it'll be nice family dining," he said.
