Baltimore County Exec Tests Positive For COVID-19

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. tested positive for COVID-19. He announced the positive test result Tuesday morning.

"As part of my regular testing regimen, I received a positive PCR test for COVID-19," Olszewski said in a statement. "I am both vaccinated and boosted. I'm asymptomatic and currently feel fine."

Olszewski's positive test result came the day after he held a news conference alerting Baltimore County of the spread of the coronavirus across the region and its toll on hospitals.

"Today we gather to sound the alarm," Olszewski said Monday. "Across the world, COVID-19 cases are rising sharply as the omicron variant spreads exponentially. We in the Baltimore area and here in Maryland are also starting to feel the pain of these sharp rises in cases."

On Monday, Gov. Larry Hogan also reported he had tested positive for the virus.

Said Olszewski on Tuesday: "This is a critical reminder of the challenges we all continue face amid the highly contagious omicron variant."

To prevent the spread of the virus, officials recommend getting vaccinated, getting a booster shot and wearing masks.
