Baltimore Sun: Towson Attorney to File Suit Against St. Joseph Medical Center
Filing is latest chapter in stent scandal
A Towson malpractice attorney filed arbitration claims against St. Joseph Medical Center with the state Tuesday on behalf of 101 patients, according to a Baltimore Sun report.
The attorney, Jay D. Miller, accuses the hospital and cardiologist Dr. Mark G. Midei of conspiracy, negligence and fraud relating to a scandal sparked in 2009 by the hospital's high rate of stent procedures. Miller accuses Dr. Midei of falsifying records to have reason to perform stent procedures that were later found to be unnecessary.
The hospital removed Dr. Midei from his practice in 2009, as the allegations came to light.
