Big Sue's Kitchen Abruptly Shutters Doors

The country-themed restaurant opened at the site of the former Ridgely & Ferrens in April.

After encountering several hurdles that delayed its launch, Big Sue's Kitchen opened to much fanfare on April 1—only to close two months later.

The closure was announced Saturday on the Allegheny Avenue restaurant's Facebook page.

"Thank you to all our customers and friends but unfortunately on May 31st we have have had to close our doors permanently," the message reads. "If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing all assets and assuming the lease please contact us at: 410-591-2336. Thank you."

Big Sue's Kitchen was located at the former site of Ridgely & Ferrens, a longtime downtown Towson eatery. The owners of Big Sue's Kitchen began work on their restaurant the same week Ridgely & Ferrens closed in October 2012.

At the time, owner Fred Dixon said he intended to open the business in December. Fred Dixon said in February that "a couple more big things" delayed the opening.

Big Sue's Kitchen operated for five years in Dundalk before the owners relocated to Towson following disputes with a landlord. The restaurant was named for Fred Dixon's wife and co-owner Sue Dixon, who created many of the recipes for the restaurant.
