Blogger Accuses Harris' Chief Of Staff of Supplying Alcohol to Underage Intern

Blogger says staffer then blamed incident on a subordinate.

The chief of staff to freshman Republican Rep. Andy Harris has been accused by a political blogger of supplying alcohol to an underage intern during a summer party.

Joseph Steffen, a blogger and state Republican insider, wrote this morning that Kevin Reigrut, Harris' chief of staff, allegedly supplied alcohol for a party this summer for an intern who was completing her time with the congressman.

Steffen based his report on unnamed sources. Multiple calls and emails to Reigrut and Ryan Nawrocki, Harris' press secretary, seeking comment have not been returned.

The unnamed intern was later "dumped from her nearly completed internship" after she returned to her supervised dorm in an intoxicated state, Steffen writes.

Reigrut then apparently attempted to shift blame to a subordinate staffer for the infraction, according to the blog. Reigrut went unpunished, Steffen wrote.

The staffer to whom Reigrut tried to shift the blame, Steffen wrote, was Laurel Schmuck. She is the daughter of Peter Schmuck, a Baltimore Sun sports columnist and occasional talk show host on WBAL radio.

Steffen also wrote that Peter Schmuck called and confronted Harris over the incident.
