Kamenetz Prefers Council Not Take Stance On Non-County Issues

County executive says getting involved in non-county issues can become a distraction.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz isn't keen on the idea of County Council members opposing a bill that would grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

Five council members, led by Timonium Republican Todd Huff, announced Thursday in a letter that they were urging county residents to sign the petition. The letter is a less formal route than passing a resolution.

Kamenetz said Friday that he sees no difference.

The former four-term councilman was known for his admonishments of other council members who wanted to pass resolutions supporting or opposing issues at the state and federal level.

"Once you open that door then it's hard to say 'No,' to other issues that come along" Kamenetz said. "Next thing you know we're passing resolutions on United Nations issues."
