Rawlings-Blake Names Peter O'Malley Chief of Staff

Former chief of staff to County Executive Jim Smith, returns to city government as top aide to Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

Peter O'Malley, a former chief of staff to County Executive Jim Smith, will return to Baltimore City government as chief of staff for Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

O'Malley will start his new position on Friday. He steps down immediately from his position as chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party.

O'Malley, 40, is an attorney and the brother of Gov. Martin O'Malley.

He served three years as Smith's chief of staff before stepping down last April to work on his brother's re-election campaign.

Prior to that, O'Malley helped develop the CitiStat program during his brother's tenure as mayor of Baltimore.

He earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his bachelor's degree in political science from the Catholic University of America. O'Malley lives in Mount Washington with his wife and three children.
