We have a full preschool program serving children ages two through five years old. We use creative curriculum which is a theme based, teacher created curriculum. We have a music teacher who comes once a week and we take several field trips a year. Our 2’s and 3’s Program In our 2’s and 3’s room we focus on helping children master self-care tasks such as toilet-training and using cups and forks as well as building social skills. We also lay the foundation for future academic learning with the basics such as the alphabet, colors, and basic math skills such as patterns and counting. Our 4’s and 5’s Program Our 4’s and 5’s program focuses on Kindergarten readiness. We cover all developmental areas including literacy, math concepts, science, social skills, music, and art all couched within a fun and interactive theme such as “Animals” or “The Beach.” Learning activities related to each of those topics are done throughout the week. Before and After School Care We provide before and after school care for children who attend Pine Grove or Harford Hills Elementary. We are open when schools are closed. We do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as: ○ Table games ○ Crafts ○ Legos ○ Outdoor play We also offer homework help, a morning and afternoon snack. Children are picked up and dropped off from the center by the BCPS bus system. Summer Camp We offer a school age summer camp for Kindergarten—5th graders. The process of putting together the school system's fiscal year 2014 operating budget has begun, and a first look will be given at Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting. According to a school system exhibit—attached to this post—preliminary plans show that the system intends to allocate $47.4 million in employee compensation including health care and retirement benefits; about $2.5 million for built-in costs such as transportation and utilities; funds to accomodate enrollment growth and academic, safety and infrastructure efforts. These items would primarily be funded by the county and state. For fiscal year 2013, the system adopted an operating budget of $1,346,526,245. Additional updates on the operating budget will be given in November and December, according to a statement in the exhibit. The budget will be implemented on July 1, 2013. The school system invited members of the public to provide input on the budget through area advisory council meetings held earlier this month. In September, the board approved Superintendent S. Dallas Dance's $72,275,070 capital budget proposal, which emphasized air conditioning in county schools. The capital budget will now be included in funding requests made to the county and state next year.
