One week removed from elections, it's slow in the county seat

Where was this column yesterday? Well, honestly, there wasn't a lot to know. No candidates to follow, no scandals to break, but things are slowly starting to warm up, even as the weather cools down.

County Executive Jim Smith to Towson groups who helped restore the 78 benches outside the courthouse. They were given a standing ovation, followed in short order by a sitting ovation. (Just kidding.)

Federal authorities issued drought emergency declarations for nearly all Maryland counties, the Baltimore Sun reports. Farmers in Baltimore County and other counties will be able to apply for emergency federal loans.
