Calvert Hall to Honor Long Time Soccer Coach
Bill Karpovich will be honored at halftime during the Cardinals game against Mt. St. Joseph.

Bill Karpovich, a long time Calvert Hall College High School soccer coach and math teacher, will be honored during halftime of the varsity soccer game scheduled for Sept. 27.
The Cardinals will take on the visiting Mt. St. Joseph Gaels at 7 p.m.
The school provided the following facts about Karpovich’s career:

- 1957 graduate of Patterson High School where he starred in baseball and soccer
- Earned a BES from The Johns Hopkins University – played varsity soccer (1959-60); varsity baseball (1958-59)
- Mathematics teacher at Calvert Hall from 1967-2001; Department Chair from 1968-1987 (proud that he never missed a day of school or of practice)
- Head Soccer Coach – 1967-1997
- 19 Championships (MSA & MIAA) in 31 season of coaching
- Career record of 422-85-33 – (was ranked third nationally for wins by active coaches at the beginning of the 1997 season)
- More than 40 of his players played professional soccer
- Six players received All-Metro Player of the Year honors from The Baltimore Sun- Brian Kirby (1978), Tim Wittman (1980), Chris Reif (1983), Bill Karpovich Jr. (1986), Rob Elliott (1988) and J. J. Kremer (1991).
- National High School Coach of the Year (1991)
- Inducted into Maryland State Soccer Hall of Fame (1997)
- No. 1 local rankings: Eight
- National rankings: No. 3 (1996), No. 8 (1991), No.16 (1997)
