Former Insurance Agent Sentenced for Theft

Danette M. Carter, 43, was sentenced to two years of probation.

A Virginia woman was sentenced to two years probation and $826 in restitution for one count of felony theft on Monday in Baltimore County Circuit Court, after she was convicted of stealing premiums from a client while working in a Towson insurance agency.

Danette M. Carter, 43, of Weems, VA, stole the premiums paid to her by a client between August 2003 and September 2004 when she worked for HBW Insurance Agency, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s office.

When the client discovered he was uninsured he contacted the agency’s owner. When Howard Weisberg, the owner, contacted Carter about the allegations she admitted in a letter to stealing the clients money.

Weisberg then investigated Carter’s accounts and reported her to the Baltimore County Police Department, according to the news release.  

The restitution is the amount Carter stole from the client.
