Inmate Escapes, Steals Car En Route To Baltimore County Prison: Reports

An inmate escaped and crashed a stolen car, reports said. Deputies were driving him from Baltimore City to a Baltimore County prison.

WBAL and FOX 45 reported that an inmate on Friday escaped the custody of Baltimore County Sheriff's Office deputies. They said he was in transit from Central Booking in Baltimore City to the Baltimore County Detention Center.

BALTIMORE, MD — An inmate heading to Baltimore County escaped law enforcement custody Friday in Baltimore City, reports said.

Citing the Baltimore County Sheriff's Office, WBAL reported that two deputies were driving an inmate from Baltimore City Central Booking to the Baltimore County Detention Center.

WBAL said the inmate exited the deputies' vehicle while it was stopped on Guilford Avenue at Mount Royal Avenue.

The suspect then ran down Preston Street, WBAL said.

FOX 45 reported that the suspect stole an SUV on nearby Calvert Street.

The suspect then hit two cars and caused "heavy damage," law enforcement radio communications reviewed by FOX 45 said.

FOX 45 reported that the suspect was handcuffed but didn't have any leg shackles. The Baltimore City Sheriff's Office and the Baltimore Police Department were both involved in the call, FOX 45 said.

The Baltimore County Sheriff's Office released these details to Patch:

On July 12, 2024, two Baltimore County Sheriff’s Deputies were transporting an inmate in a marked SUV from the Central Booking to the Baltimore County Detention Center. As the vehicle traveled north on Guilford Ave., it stopped at Mount Royal Ave. At that point, 28-year-old Joshua Brown exited the rear passenger side door of the vehicle and ran West on Preston Street. The Baltimore County Sheriff’s Office is working to obtain a warrant for the suspect. If located, please call 911 or 410-307-2020.
