Man Arrested, Charged In Towson Hotel Stabbing

The suspect allegedly attacked a co-worker Saturday night.

Baltimore County police arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his co-worker Saturday night following a dispute at Sheraton Hotel in Towson.

Derrick Lamont Newman, 28, and his co-worker reportedly became involved in an altercation in an elevator at the Sheraton because Newman had allegedly taken a beer from a cart the co-worker was using, police said.

When officers responded to the scene, at 11:31 p.m. Saturday, they discovered Newman's co-worker suffering from a large laceration to the head, according to a police statement. The man told police that Newman had stabbed him in the head with a pocket knife during the altercation.

Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Newman, of the 3700 block of West Bay Avenue, was arrested after a brief foot chase, and officers also discovered a bag containing a handgun and suspected narcotics that they believe Newman dropped during the pusuit, according to the statement.

Newman faces charges that include attempted second-degree murder, a handgun violation and controlled dangerous substance violation, according to the statement.

He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
