A Towson Catholic school was awarded the distintiction of Blue Ribbon status by the U.S. Department of Education.
was one of 269 schools in the nation, 10 statewide and two Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore to be honored, according to a news release from the school. The private school was the only middle/high and independent school recognized.
"We are honored and humbled that Notre Dame Preparatory School has been recognized not only as one of the finest schools in the state of Maryland but also in the country!" headmistress Sister Patricia McCarron said in the release. "This recognition is a tribute to our exemplary faculty and staff and to our talented students who rise to the challenge everyday through their hard work, energy and spirit. The Blue Ribbon Award is an honor belongs to our community!"

The National Blue Ribbon School award ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C.
The awards are given to public and private elementary, middle and high schools with high-achieving students or where the achivement gap is shrinking.
