Phelps Holds Off Le Clos, Claims Another Gold in 100M Fly

Phelps made another threepeat in a signature event.

Rodgers Forge's own Michael Phelps made it 21 Olympic medals Friday evening, with a gold in the 100-meter butterfly, the Huffington Post reports.

Phelps finished in 51.21 seconds, just ahead of South Africa's Chad le Clos, who famously in the 200-meter butterfly earlier this week. Le Clos tied with Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia for the silver, finishing in 51.44 seconds.

ESPN reports via Twitter that Phelps surged from 7th place at the 50-meter mark to claim the win in the Friday event. "There's nothing really to say that hasn't been said before," ESPN's Olympics feed Tweeted.

With the gold in the 200-meter individualized medley on Thursday, Phelps became the first male swimmer to win the same event in three consecutive Olympics. With his medal in today's race, the last individual race of his career, he also became the only swimmer to do it in two different events.
