Developer Wants to Lease Planned Swim Club Parking

A developer is in talks with the county to lease the lot.

Several months after the demise of the long-planned Towson Swim Club, a developer appears poised to lease what would have been its prime Towson real estate.

Martin Azola, president of Azola and Associates, is reportedly in negotiations with Baltimore County to lease parking spaces that would have been used for the swim club as as additional parking for adjacent Bosley Hall.

That building, part of what was once a county jail, with 8,124 square feet of office space.

Ellen Kobler, a county spokeswoman, confirmed that the discussions were taking place.

"We are in discussions with Mr. Azola regarding his leasing the remaining acreage on that property for parking," she said. "He did an excellent job with the renovations of the building and we're pleased to be working with him to come to an agreement regarding the property."

Azola did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

County Councilman David Marks said the deal would include no construction on the open space area where the pool was originally planned. He said Azola also planned improvements to the so-callednearby at the corner of Towsontown Boulevard and Old Bosley Avenue.

"What (Azola) is looking to do now is a comprehensive landscaping plan that would enhance the green ravine and the neighborhood itself," Marks said.

The Towson Swim Club project, started by a group of residents in 2006, when the pool failed to gain enough members to attain financing.
