Sunny Days Are Here Again

Landmark reopens, celebrity visits mall

  • The famed Senator Theatre, just south of the city line in Govans, is back under new management and set to reopen next Friday for its first film, "Red," starring Bruce Willis. We don't have the server space to go into the whole saga from an April 2009 foreclosure to this point (I covered it for another publication at the time), but suffice it to say it took a while. The new owners will hold a community meeting to officially announce their plans tonight.
  • Mary J. Blige dropped by Towson yesterday to promote her new line of sunglasses. We have photos.
  • Temperatures are on their way back up, Accuweather reports. Expect highs in the 70s for the next few days.
  • As part of a Patch program called Give 5, look for me at the Assistance Center of Towson Churches today. The center is always looking for donations, and their pantry is strained more than ever, as Elizabeth Heubeck noted a while back.
  • Towson University will host a discussion of the book "Outcasts United" in Cook Library. The book by Warren St. John is a true story about a group of refugee kids who end up in a Georgia town and form a soccer team. Luma Mufleh, the team's coach, is set to speak on campus on Oct. 19.
