Towson Police Warn of Auto Thefts

Officers recently responded to several thefts in the southern York Road corridor.

Towson police are warning community members to secure their vehicles from theft.

Over the past weekend, police responded to several incident of thefts from vehicles in several neighborhoods, and one instance of grand theft auto, according to an email from Sgt. Stephen Fink. Vehicles were left unlocked with valuables such as GPS devices, cellphones, iPods and wallets visible in plain sight.

Fink said thieves are walking up on down streets at night targeting such vehicles.

"We know many habits are hard to break and as residents in our communities we should feel safe in our homes with all our valuables surrounding us day and night," he wrote. "However there are folks amongst us who have other ideas and by not doing our part to properly lock, secure, store our valuables they come along and make our property their's."

Towson police are actively investigating the thefts to identify those responsible.
