Towson University Athletics Director Resigns Post

Mike Waddell has accepted a new position at the University of Arkansas.

Towson University announced the departure of Athletics Director Mike Waddell Monday evening.

After a two-and-a-half year tenure, Waddell will leave his post on June 10, according to a news release from the college. He will take over as the senior associate athletics director at the University of Arkansas.

"In a relatively short amount of time, Mike Waddell began an impressive transformation of Towson University's NCAA Division I Intercollegiate athletics program," Towson University President Dr. Maravene Loeschke said in the release. "We wish him well at the University of Arkansas, and we know that he will bring the same energy, leadership, and excellence to his new job as he did here at Towson. He will be missed. The TU community wishes Mr. Waddell and his family all the best in his new endeavor."

Towson University has not net named an interim athletic director, though the college is launching a nationwide search for a permanent  replacement.

Highlights during Waddell's time at Towson include six Colonial Athletic Association championships, four coaches named CAA Coach of the Year and five students honored as CAA Player of the Year, according to the release.

He faced strong criticism after recommended cutting the mens' baseball and soccer teams, citing economic concerns and Title 9 compliance.
