Temple Hills Girl Scouts Getting Help from DC Media, Community After Robbery

After a Temple Hills-area girl scout troop suffered a robbery, local media reaches out to help them.

A DC media outlet is helping a local Girl Scouts troop raise the $10,000 they need to go to Disney World.

The troop made up of just seven girls were selling girl scouts' cookies outside of a Waldorf restaurant Sunday when a man tried to rob them.

After reporting the story about the Temple Hills-based troop's robbery earlier this week, WUSA9  is helping the girls on Friday morning raise the rest of the money needed for their trip.

According to WUSA9, the girls and their troop leader Shelli Harris were selling cookies outside the Five Guys, when according to witnesses a man shoved Harris and tried to steal Troop 5819's donations. The girls were forced to suspend their sales following the incident.

James Ernest Wright, 48, of Waldorf has been charged with attempted robbery, theft and disorderly conduct for reportedly trying to take the troop's donations.

Although sore, Harris wants to help her troop get their trip and so do the news outlets. So Friday morning, they are all returning to the scene of the crime to sell the remaining cookies.

Want to help? Go over to the Five Guys at 3233 Plaza Way in Waldorf, MD starting at 6 a.m. Friday morning with some cash and help out the troop. You can also make a donation or purchase cookies by emailing pinkpassion4u@verizon.net.
