Kids Learn Sign Language, Life Skills and More At PGCC

Eleven Prince George's County school-age children spent July learning sign language as a part of The Summer Youth Program at Prince George’s Community College.

“Prince George’s Community College has developed an interactive program tailored to a child’s interest and educational needs,” says Denise Barino-Samuels, program coordinator, community education programs. “Instructors are professional members of their respective industries and the instructional strategy aligns with the Maryland State Curriculum,” she added.

Students could also participate in classes in math, budgeting, culinary arts, babysitting, jewelry design, athletics, health care and language arts programs High school students could also register for culinary arts, SAT Preparatory, college study skills and budgeting classes. 

The program also offered cheerleading sessions lead by PGCC cheerleaders and both boys and girls basketball managed by the Washington Wizards and Mystics.
