2 Men Who Wanted To Go To Greenbelt Caught Trying To Steal Bus: Police

Two Maryland men who tried to steal a Ride-On bus in Wheaton early Friday morning were arrested on attempted carjacking and other charges.

WHEATON, MD — Two Maryland men who tried to steal a Ride-On bus in Wheaton early Friday morning were arrested on attempted carjacking and other charges, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Ricko Ford, 29, of Capital Heights and Wayne Pitt, 30, of Gaithersburg were found in the front vestibule area of the bus around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue, police said.

Police said the driver of the Ride-On bus picked up Ford and Pitt at the Glenmont Metro Station in Wheaton. Ford and Pitt told the bus driver they wanted to go to Greenbelt. But the bus driver told them that the bus was going to Montgomery Mall.

Ford and Pitt approached the bus driver, and one of them told the bus driver he wanted the bus, police said. The bus driver then got off of the bus and walked away. Ford and Pitt were then seen attempting to drive away in the bus, according to police.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Ford and Pitt holding bottles of alcohol inside the bus and ordered them to leave the bus. The two men walked off the bus and were taken into custody.

Both Ford and Pitt were taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where they were charged with attempted carjacking, theft, disorderly conduct and intoxicated public disturbance-related charges, police said.
