Although demolition has clearly begun on the Safeway at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive, developers have yet to ceremonially "break the ground." They will do so Wednesday at 10 a.m. But the groundbreaking is not just for the large grocery store. Foulger-Pratt is developing a 17-story apartment building above the Safeway, called "The Exchange at Wheaton Station." The speaker line-up includes politicans and developers: <ul> <li>Ike Leggett, Montgomery County Executive</li> <li>Jeff Waldstreicher, Maryland Delegate</li> <li>Bryan Foulger, principal of Foulger-Pratt </li> <li>Leith Wain, president of Patriot Realty</li> <li>Steve Neibergall, president of the Safeway Eastern Division </li> </ul> The Safeway is slated to open in 2013.
