How Much of the County Council Should Be Televised?
Councilmember Hans Riemer argues that broadcasting all of the council's discussions is an important part of government transparency.

Each Tuesday, anyone interested in watching the Montgomery County Council's full session in Rockville can turn on the television or go online. But not all of the Council's committee work sessions, which are scattered throughout the week, are broadcast in the same way.
Councilmember Hans Riemer, along with other members of the Government Operations Committee, is pushing for 100 percent of the Montgomery County Council's work sessions to be televised. Audio recordings already are made at each work session.
As Riemer explained in a recent blog post, the Council often deliberates at length during the non-televised committee work sessions, after which "significant policy issues are passed with a vote at the Council but with no discussion."

Riemer, who was appointed in February as the Council's Lead for Digital Government, also wants visitors to the Council website to be able to search the video archives by keywords.
