Woman Arrested For Murder Of Great-Grandmother In Wheaton
A Montgomery County woman was arrested for the murder of her 80-year-old great-grandmother in Wheaton, police said.

WHEATON, MD — A 22-year-old Montgomery County woman was arrested for the murder of her 80-year-old great-grandmother in Wheaton Friday, police said.
Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano is accused of killing Doris Elizabeth Shelton, 80.
Both the suspect and victim lived in the 10500 block of Cascade Place.

Police said Shelton's husband found her unresponsive and not breathing in their home just after 3 p.m. Friday. Officers responded to the home and confirmed that Shelton was deceased.
Detectives began to investigate the death as a homicide after investigation revealed there was apparent trauma to Shelton's body.

Police developed Lozano as a suspect and placed a lookout for her on the police radio. Maryland-National Capital Park Police Officers arrested her a short distance from the home, police said.

Lozano was interviewed at Police Headquarters and "made a statement implicating herself in the assault of her great-grandmother," police said.
She was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree murder. She is being held without bond.
Shelton's body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause and manner of death.
The circumstances surrounding this homicide remain under investigation, police said. Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional details will be released.
