BRIDGEWATER, MA — Police Chief Christopher Delmonte and Fire Chief Michael MacDermott received word Friday that the 5-year-old girl who was pulled from a pool last weekend has regained consciousness and is expected to make a full recovery.

On Saturday, July 10, Bridgewater Police responded to a house on College Road after receiving reports that a 5-year-old girl was unresponsive after being pulled from a pool.

When police got there, the girl was having CPR administered to her by off-duty Brockton Firefighter Elisha Eleyi and Massachusetts State Police Trooper Taylor Irish, who were both visiting the home at the time.

Advanced life support was administered by Bridgewater police and firefighters until she could be transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton where a medical helicopter took her to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for further treatment.

An initial investigation found that the girl had slipped into the pool trying to get a toy and was unable to keep herself afloat. There were several adults nearby who noticed the girl face-down in the water and quickly scrambled to pull her out.

Both Chief Delmonte and Chief MacDermott would like to credit the efforts of their responding personnel who undoubtedly helped to save this girl’s life. “All of these police and fire personnel are to be commended for their swift action and determination not to let the events of the day end in tragedy,” Chief Delmonte said.
