Popular MA Furniture Retailer Abruptly Closes

The business opened its latest storefront in May.

MASSACHUSETTS — A popular New England furniture retailer has abruptly closed all of its stores just one day before Christmas, according to a message on its website.

Circle Furniture shuttered its eight stores across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. A banner on its website reads, "All Circle Furniture locations are CLOSED till further notice."

Employees were sent a company-wide email on Friday regarding the closures, according to the Boston Globe. On Tuesday, they received another email confirming they were being laid off, the newspaper reported.

Circle Furniture wrote, "we can no longer afford to continue operations, therefore all employees are being let go including your position effective Dec. 23," in the letter sent to employees that the Boston Globe obtained.

The company has locations in Acton, Cambridge, Framingham, Hyannis, Middleton, Pembroke, Boston's Seaport neighborhood, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It most recently opened its Hyannis storefront in May, according to a social media post.

Patch reached out to Circle Furniture for comment and has not yet heard back.
