This Is The Best Golf Course In MA, Golf Digest Says

The Country Club: The Main Course in Brookline is the best golf course Massachusetts has to offer, according to a new ranking developed by golfers themselves.

Golf Digest deploys 1,700 professionally trained low-handicap golfers to continually assess the golf courses. The rankings are based on more than 80,000 evaluations over 10 years looking at criteria such as short options, challenge, design variety, conditioning, aesthetics, and character.

The magazine says the course’s Clyde and Squirrel nine holes combine to make one of the best 18-hole courses in the world. That is not even including Primrose, the course’s other nine holes that were the host of the 1963 and 1988 U.S. Opens. Portions of the course’s main 18 have been used in tournaments such as the 2013 U.S. Amateur and the 2022 U.S. Open.

There are plenty of other courses in Massachusetts that prioritize the aesthetics of their fairways and greens and test the golfers who play on them with a variety of challenges.

5. The Kittansett Club, Marion - This oceanside course has made Golf Digest's national list every year for the last 54 years.
10. Salem Country Club, Peabody - A recent $3.5 million renovation has landed this course back on the magazine's radar after a 20-year absence.
15. Charles River Country Club, Newton - This course has moved up four spots on the state's list this year.
20. GreatHorse, Hampden - This course, located near the state's southern Connecticut border, has a resort-like amenities and overnight lodging.
30. The International: Oaks Course, Bolton - This course makes the cut with its "rugged" terrain and abundance of sand traps. The Oaks Course hosted an LIV Golf Invitational Series In 2022.

This is the 25th edition of Golf Digest’s Best in State ranking, which has been published continually since 1977.
