Boston is among the country's hotbeds for coffee — early Americans drank it instead of tea during the Boston Tea Party era — with the city able to claim George Howell as its own, along with more recent arrivals to the scene like Broadsheet, Kid Dream and others.
The city can also thank the influence of Italian and Portuguese immigrant communities for its placement among the top pastry cities, with bountiful options for cannoli, biscotti and pastéis de nata across Boston.
