Where's The Creepiest Place In MA? Don't Even Axe

FALL RIVER, MA — The creepiest place in Massachusetts isn’t the so-called UFO bridge in Sheffield, the witch caves in Ashland or any of the abandoned state hospitals — it's a bed and breakfast.

The Lizzie Borden House in Fall River is the "creepiest" place in Massachusetts, according to HGTV, whose list of the creepiest places in all 50 states includes rundown prisons, defunct hospitals and hotels where ghosts are said to appear in guest rooms and halls.

The Lizzie Borden House makes the list because, HGTV wrote:

"In 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered in their Fall River home in broad daylight. Lizzie, their youngest daughter, was charged with the crime and later acquitted. Though many still believe her to be guilty, the murders remain unsolved to this day. The house has been converted into a bed and breakfast and museum, and those who have spent the night have reported hearing a woman crying and seeing apparitions."

Rhode Island — Providence City Hall. No, not because of whatever the city council is up to, it's because former 19th Century mayor Thomas Doyle haunts the place. He's still mad about losing that 1869 election.

Connecticut — The Mark Twain House in Hartford, which is supposedly haunted by a ghost called "the lady in white."

New Hampshire — The wife of the man who built the Mount Washington Hotel supposedly still haunts the hallways of this sprawling inn, which also one of the best porches on Earth.

Vermont — A young girl named Emily haunts a covered bridge in Stowe. She hung herself there after her lover failed to show for a date. This is not the same bridge as depicted in "Beetlejuice."
