In MA, 'Unusual' Uncertainty About Heavy Rains On Friday
Forecast models are a "hot mess" for the Friday into Saturday rain event, one meteorologist said.

MASSACHUSETTS — Most of Massachusetts will see rain Friday evening into Saturday, but whether it'll be a minor major event? Hard to say.
Forecasters were still somewhat unsure about rain totals for the state as of Thursday night, with the most popular weather models showing wildly different predictions for the storm. One model on Thursday predicted as much as 2-1/2 inches of rain along the I-495 corridor and west. Another model predicted nothing.
WBZ meteorologist Eric Fisher this week called the models "a hot mess of uncertainty" while projecting mostly showers between Worcester and Boston.

The National Weather Service, meanwhile, said there's a "fair amount of uncertainty" for the Friday-into-Saturday event. The weather service was predicting a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain Friday night with totals between a 1/2 and 1 inch.
A forecast released Thursday afternoon showed up to an inch in an area stretching from Greenfield southeast to Plymouth and out to Cape Cod. Parts of the state north of Boston toward Cape Ann may only get up to an inch.

Forecasts were predicting a major rain event, however, for southern Connecticut and the New York City area with 4 to 3 inches possible in an area between Greenwich and New Haven.
But after Friday, southern New England is in for a dry period, with temperatures slightly above normal for the beginning of October. Check out the long-range forecast for the October start here.
