Extreme Heat Blast To Hit MA Ahead Of Extended Scorching Stretch

A one-day onslaught of hazy, hot and humid weather sets the table for the first heat wave of the season next week.

MASSACHUSETTS — A brief blast of extreme summer heat this week will set the table for the potential of the first official heat wave of the season next week as temperatures soar into the 90s across Massachusetts.

The peak of the hot weather this week comes on Thursday when the National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 92 degrees with a brisk southwest wind gusting to 21 mph. There is a chance of severe weather with thunder and lightning late in the day.

Friday and Saturday are looking sunny and seasonable with the chances growing by the day that this will be the first Saturday in three months without measurable rain in Greater Boston. As of Tuesday, the NWS forecast only a slight chance of rain late Saturday night with a high of 83 degrees.

Another pleasant day on Sunday will set the stage for what is shaping up to be a major surge of hot, hazy and humid weather next week.

Starting Monday, at least three days of searing heat are expected with highs near 94 degrees each day.

Long-range forecasts are calling for a break in the heat wave around next Thursday.
