MASSACHUSETTS — Almost all of eastern Massachusetts will be under a flood watch Monday with strong rainstorms expected to move across the state during the afternoon and evening hours.

The National Weather Service issued the flood watch early Monday morning warning of 1-1/2 to 3 inches of rain possible between 2 and 8 p.m. The flood watch covers an area from the Quabbin Reservoir to Boston, although Cape Cod and western Massachusetts are not included.

"Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening will bring renewed potential for flooding, especially between 2pm and 8pm. This will impact the evening commute," the weather service said in a tweet early Monday morning.

Monday's flood watch will kick off another wet week across the region. More heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday, and forecasters are still watching what Hurricane Lee will do. That hurricane will be in the area by Saturday. Many forecasts are predicting the storm will pass by New England, but some models show a slight chance it could glance Cape Cod or hit farther west.

Monday's flood watch goes into effect at 11 a.m. A flood watch means that residents should be prepared for possible flooding. A flood warning means that flooding is imminent.
