FITCHBURG, MA — A former police officer from Fitchburg has been barred from police work by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.

James McCall, who resigned from the Fitchburg Police Department two years ago, will no longer be able to work as a cop in Massachusetts. The POST commission found he had a pattern of unprofessional police conduct, including physically touching a female employee and sending inappropriate social media messages to a minor.

"Obviously, he is either unable or unwilling to refrain from these highly inappropriate and extremely offensive sexual actions towards females," the final decision from the POST Commission states.

McCall resigned in August of 2023 after an investigation into a Snapchat incident with a juvenile student.

McCall called her "yummy," and the girl began to cry. She was worried that McCall would approach her, according to the POST Commission's finding.

He also made sexual advances to other female employees, mostly ones in roles subordinate to him.

McCall is one of three officers who were decertified by the POST commission on August 15. Matthew Bistancy, a former Methuen officer, and Kevin Garneau, a former Lowell officer, were also decertified.

Garneau was accused of raping a 16-year-old homeless girl while on duty, according to the Boston Globe.
