MASSACHUSETTS — Governor Maura Healey was working with the Department of Transitional Assistance this past weekend in an effort to help the more than 1 million SNAP residents in the state if the benefits are halted on Saturday, Nov. 1, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Meanwhile, a Sudbury teenager was rescued from a New Hampshire hiking trail after sustaining a debilitating leg injury.

Plus, a large crane collapsed in Everett on Friday evening, killing two people.

Gov. Healey Blasts Looming SNAP Benefit Cutoff, Plans For Contingencies

Of the approximately 1.1 million Massachusetts residents who receive SNAP benefits, 32 percent are children, 26 percent are seniors, and 31 percent are people with disabilities. Healey said her administration and the United Way will launch a new statewide effort to support Massachusetts residents in need of food assistance during any SNAP benefit suspension.

Teen From Sudbury Massachusetts Rescued After Being Injured On New Hampshire Hiking Trail

More than 20 people made up the rescue crew in the early hours of Sunday morning to help the 17-year-old at Old Bridle Path in Franconia, NH. New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers led the successful rescue that last approximately one and a half hours.

At Least 2 People Dead In Everett Crane Collapse

The collapse occurred on Island End in the vicinity of Rover Street over the Mystic River. The crane was elevated between four and five stories tall before it collapsed and plummeted to the ground.

Hashi market is opening its first Massachusetts locations in Brookline and Cambridge before the end of the year. The Cambridge location will reportedly include a Matcha desert shop. The business itself offers fresh fish, sushi, produce, and Japanese groceries. Hashi Market opened its first store in New York City in 2024 and has since expanded throughout New York and California.
